Maddie Such spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Taylor Schafer, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jessy Del Toro, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Valparaiso's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They fell just short of Boone Grove by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Vikings have suffered since May 8, 2024.
Lake Central pushed their record up to 25-3 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 7.3 runs. As for Valparaiso, they now have a losing record of 13-14.
Everything went Lake Central's way against Valparaiso when the teams last played back in April, as Lake Central made off with a 7-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
