Ashbrook and Highland Tech are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Greenwave are taking a road trip to square off against the Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
If Ashbrook beats Highland Tech with 13 runs on Monday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Greenwave came out on top against Huss by a score of 13-10 on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Greenwave.
Meanwhile, Highland Tech had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 24-4 margin over the Gryphons. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by seven runs or more this season.
Erwing Soza was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Highland Tech is 4-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 5-8 otherwise. Soza was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
In other batting news, Cooper Hartis and Coleman Schafer did most of the damage at the plate: Hartis got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one double, while Schafer went 4-for-5 with five RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI Schafer has posted since back in April of 2024. Nate Watts was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
Highland Tech kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 8.8.
Ashbrook's record now sits at 4-13. As for Highland Tech, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.
Ashbrook suffered a grim 11-4 defeat to Highland Tech in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Greenwave avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
