The Western Wildcats waltzed into Friday's matchup with three straight wins but they left with four. Everything went their way against Plantation as Western made off with a 34-14 win. Given Western's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 25th, while Plantation is ranked 128th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Koby Howard went supernova for Western, picking up 243 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while also punching in two touchdowns on the ground. Davi Belfort was another key contributor, throwing for 307 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.6 yards per attempt.
Another reason for the win was Western's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Julian Mendez and Jacob Joseph who racked up four sacks between them.
When it comes to explaining why Plantation lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jorge "jt" tabora ii. Despite the final result, he rushed for 13 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 222 yards and a touchdown.
Western is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. As for Plantation, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-4.
Western will be playing at home against Cypress Bay at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cypress Bay is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Plantation, they will head out on the road to face off against St. Thomas Aquinas at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Thomas Aquinas will be looking to keep their seven-game home win streak alive.
