Mission Valley recap November 5, 2013
American moved up to 479 from 534 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Mission Valley. The Eagles were able to move up by defeating Kennedy 50-28.
Washington was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in the league. The Huskies defeated Newark Memorial 30-20 earlier in the week.
Irvington's dynamic duo of Jack Shank and Jared Lozoya proved tough for Logan to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Shank threw for 69 yards and 1 touchdown and Lozoya had 39 yards receiving. Chauncey Jones helped Irvington's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 19 yards.
Drew Lyell was a passing and rushing force as American topped the Titans.
The leading receiver in the league this season is Daniel Gusev. The Irvington star has 25 catches for 434 yards.
Derek Slater of the Kennedy is only 79 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Slater has rushed for 921 yards on 147 carries so far this year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Bret Casey's team takes on Moreau Catholic. The Eagles are in first place, while the Mariners are in fourth place.
The Vikings fell to the Colts 56-18 last week, the largest margin of any game. Shank was a bright spot for Irvington, as he ran for 96 yards in the defeat.
