Homestead is 1-7 against South Dade since December of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Homestead Broncos will be playing at home against the South Dade Buccaneers at 4:30 p.m. Homestead will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
On Tuesday, Homestead strolled past TERRA Environmental with points to spare, taking the game 36-21. Despite the win, that was the fewest points Homestead has scored all year.
Homestead's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jayda Fisher led the charge by scoring four points along with nine rebounds and four steals. Ava Ferniza was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, South Dade scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They secured a 56-50 W over Coral Reef. The win was just what South Dade needed coming off of a 53-11 loss in their prior game.
South Dade found their leader in underclassman Genesis Aguilar, who scored 31 points. That makes it six consecutive games in which Aguilar has scored at least a third of South Dade's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lapatra Warren, who scored 14 points.
Homestead's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-1. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 24.33 points. As for South Dade, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 4-8 record this season.
Homestead strolled past South Dade in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 by a score of 51-35. Does Homestead have another victory up their sleeve, or will South Dade turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
