On Wednesday, the Western Warriors faced the Del Sol Dragons in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Western took a 53-34 bruising from Del Sol. Western was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Del Sol apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2021.
Western's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Azariah Boxley, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 rebounds. Boxley is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Qaaima Taylor, who scored 14 points along with 8 rebounds and 4 steals.
Del Sol was led to victory by Chanel King and Ricana Taylor. King scored 17 points along with 7 rebounds and 5 assists, while Taylor dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds. Ky'ana Allen was another key contributor, scoring 8 points along with 5 rebounds and 5 steals.
Western's defeat dropped their record down to 2-1. As for Del Sol, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
Western will be playing at home against Rancho at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Del Sol, they will face off against Awaken Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Awaken Christian will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nevada Rankings (they are ranked 30th, while Del Sol is ranked second).
