Shoemaker extended their losing streak to 11 on Friday, dropping them down to 2-12. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 14-13 heartbreaker at the hands of the Killeen Kangaroos. Even if the Wolves couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Aiden Toth was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave him a new career-low. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Dylan Vinton was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Roderick Johnson also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
As for Killeen, their victory ended a 12-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-13. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Killeen's side, the team relied heavily on Alden Mason, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. The Kangaroos are undefeated when Mason posts two or more runs, but 0-13 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Bobby Webb, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
While Shoemaker had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
