Mallard Creek is 0-10 against West Charlotte since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Mallard Creek Mavericks will head out on the road to square off against the West Charlotte Lions at 7:15 p.m. One thing working in Mallard Creek's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six matches.
Mallard Creek pushed their score all the way to 75 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a hard 92-75 fall against Chambers. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game two weeks ago (59), Mallard Creek still had to take the loss.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Rassell Young, who scored 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Langston Boyd was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, West Charlotte's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their sixth straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 74-52 defeat at the hands of Kings Mountain. While losing is never fun, West Charlotte can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 214th, while Kings Mountain is ranked 67th).
The losing side was boosted by Damani Day, who scored 19 points. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Bamara Kone, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and two blocks.
Mallard Creek has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. As for West Charlotte, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-10.
Friday's game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Boyd and Day. Boyd has been dynamite this season: he has averaged 20.5 points and 1.2 steals. For his part, Day has averaged 14.7 points, 1.2 steals, and 1.9 assists.
Mallard Creek couldn't quite finish off West Charlotte in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 and fell 85-82. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Day, who went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 32 points and 1 assist. Now that Mallard Creek knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
