Spring Mills hasn't had much luck against Washington recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Cardinals will welcome the Patriots at 7:00 p.m. Spring Mills is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.
Spring Mills is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of West Virginia's top teams: Jefferson, who was ranked fourth at the time (Spring Mills was ranked 24th). The Cardinals lost 9-1 to the Cougars on Tuesday. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Cardinals couldn't push the score so high this time.
Alexis Wagner made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Washington). They never let Martinsburg get on the board and left with a 17-0 win on Monday. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.
Zoe Kesterson and Mckenzie O'Hara made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Kesterson struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, O'Hara struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Kesterson went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while O'Hara went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Gabby Bibb and Chloe Constantino did most of the damage at the plate: Bibb went a perfect 4-for-4 with five runs, two stolen bases, and one double, while Constantino went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Constantino a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Carly Constantino, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
Washington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 22 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in ten consecutive contests.
Washington is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Spring Mills, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-6.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Spring Mills hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. However, it's not like Washington struggles in that department as they've averaged .426. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Spring Mills might still be hurting after the 11-1 loss they got from Washington in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Cardinals have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
