The Poolesville Falcons will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Wheaton Knights at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Poolesville is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against Wootton. The Falcons were the clear victors by a 12-5 margin over the Patriots on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now won three in a row.
Reid Kimball and Sawyer Thompson did most of the damage at the plate: Kimball got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Thompson went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Garrett Simons, who went 2-for-5 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Wheaton got the win against Paint Branch on Friday by a conclusive 19-2.
Adam Cary was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Cary was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jack Bartels, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Teague Helfers was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
Wheaton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Paint Branch only posted an OBP of .278.
Poolesville got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in April of 2017 against Wheaton by a conclusive 27-1 score. Will the Falcons repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
