The Jefferson Saints's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their 12th straight loss. They fell just short of Arrupe Jesuit by a score of 47-44. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat Jefferson has suffered against Arrupe Jesuit since February 24, 2018.
When it comes to explaining why Jefferson lost, one person who can't be blamed is Dominic Garcia. Despite the final result, he scored 20 points along with five assists and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Garcia has scored all season. Antonio Lynch was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with three steals.
Even though they lost, Jefferson were working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Arrupe Jesuit's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ari Cowans, who scored 19 points along with three steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Cowans has scored at least a third of Arrupe Jesuit's points. Another player making a difference was David Diaz, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds.
Jefferson's loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-14. As for Arrupe Jesuit, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-7.
Jefferson will be playing at home against Englewood at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Englewood focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Thursday. As for Arrupe Jesuit, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Stargate School at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. Stargate School has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 178 points over their last three contests.
