After flying high against the Riverside Chargers on Monday, the Central Valley Cougars came back down to earth. Central Valley was beaten by Elgin/Pope John 56-15 on Tuesday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Central Valley has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Central Valley still got an impressive performance from Alexis Johnson, who scored three points along with nine rebounds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Central Valley struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Elgin/Pope John had a senior duo take command as Ashlynne Charf scored 13 points and Brenna Martinsen scored ten points.
Central Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Elgin/Pope John, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Central Valley will play host again and welcome Heartland Lutheran, where tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Elgin/Pope John, they will be playing at home against Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
