Seneca extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 15 on Wednesday, dropping them down to 0-13. They lost 14-4 to the Iroquois Braves. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Braves this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in April.
Jedidiah Mack was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off six hits. Mack was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, John Jewell was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Anthony Wodarski also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
As for Iroquois, their record is now 7-4. They not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 7th (when they won 13-2).
Like Seneca, Iroquois also got a great game from a two-way player: Jesse Brown. He struck out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Brown is becoming a predictor of Iroquois' success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 2-4 when he doesn't). Brown was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Iroquois got a massive performance out of Ethan Alderson, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. The Braves are undefeated when Alderson posts two or more stolen bases, but 3-4 otherwise. Brian Rice was another key player, going 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Seneca is taking a road trip to take on Jamestown at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Iroquois, they will host Titusville at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
