The Fort Knox Eagles will take on the Caverna Colonels at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with five consecutive losses for Fort Knox and 11 for Caverna.
Fort Knox couldn't beat Fort Campbell on Saturday even though they stacked four runs on them in the third inning. The Eagles fell 10-7 to the Falcons.
Eli Ortega was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Ortega was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, Angel Santiago was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Fort Knox is 2-1 when Santiago posts two or more stolen bases, but 2-7-1 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Brisco, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Warren Central hit Caverna with a four-run first inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Colonels took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Dragons.
Tay Alexander made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all four of his plate appearances with five stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Jantin Wykoff, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with six stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Caverna's loss dropped their record down to 1-21. As for Fort Knox, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8-1.
Caverna's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Fort Knox has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .464. It's a different story for Caverna, though, as they've only averaged .339. Will they be able to contain Fort Knox's hitters?
Fort Knox came out on top in a nail-biter against Caverna in their previous meeting back in March, sneaking past 9-8. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Colonels turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
