West Washington has enjoyed the comforts of home their last four games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the Perry Central Commodores at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully West Washington focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Thursday.
Even though West Washington has not done well against Mitchell recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way. West Washington simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Mitchell 54-27 at home. Given West Washington's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 147th, while Mitchell is ranked 341st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
West Washington relied on the efforts of Ava Woods, who scored 15 points, and Meredith Deaton, who scored 16 points along with 7 rebounds. The matchup was Deaton's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Shelby Griffitts was another key contributor, scoring 6 points.
Meanwhile, Perry Central suffered a tough 49-28 defeat at the hands of Crawford County on Thursday. Perry Central has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
West Washington's victory bumped their season record to 6-2 while Mitchell's defeat dropped theirs to 0-9.
West Washington didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Perry Central in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, but they still walked away with a 48-44 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for West Washington since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
