Nolan Aurelia and Zhyaire Fernandes provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Masuk. The longest such play in Southwest this season, the connection resulted in 78 yards.
Bethel moved up to 40 from 66 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Wildcats were able to move up by besting New Fairfield 48-14.
Malik Cummings provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Panthers topped Bunnell. He completed 8 passes for 252 yards and also ran for 141 yards. Cummings' favorite target this week was PJ Kokkoros, who caught 6 passes for 196 yards.
Andrew Tarantino threw for 198 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Peter Lummis was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 11 carries, he ran for 153 yards as Weston beat the Bulldogs. Teammate Michael Santamaria added to the ground attack by rushing for 91 yards.
5-foot-11 quarterback Tarantino of Newtown is the league leader in passing yards this season with 683. He has also thrown 7 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Kevin Loschiavo. The Oxford star has 12 catches for 293 yards.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when Oxford's Loschiavo goes up against Dave Brennan's team's Dorian Thompson.
One of Southwest's premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when the Nighthawks and Joel Barlow face off next week.
The Falcons are in third place, while Newtown is in first place.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Joel Barlow takes on Steven George's team. Rob Tynan's team has allowed 28 points this season, while the Nighthawks have given up 28. The Falcons allowed 14 points last week as they topped Stratford.
The Wolverines were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to fifth in the league. Earlier in the week, Oxford triumphed over Notre Dame Catholic 47-7.
