Pojoaque Valley extended the longest winning streak in 3A District 2 this week by beating Raton, 40-21. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Taos took down Espanola Valley 41-7 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Pojoaque Valley's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. John Ainsworth threw for 249 and four touchdowns and Juan Rios had 83 yards receiving. On the ground Jesse Gomez chipped in 33 yards. Ryan Koller helped Pojoaque Valley's passing attack out by catching three balls for 59 yards.
5-foot-11 quarterback Toby Henson of the Tigers is the league leader in passing yards this season with 898. He has also thrown seven touchdowns. On the ground, the Tigers' Isaac Gonzales has rushed for 535 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Rios. The Pojoaque Valley star has 14 catches for 346 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Robertson takes on John Ainsworth's team. At the moment, the Cardinals are in third, while the Elks/Elkettes are in second.
Pojoaque Valley made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 12,100 from 12,455. The improvement came about via a 40-21 victory over Raton last week.
