George Wythe hasn't had much luck against Auburn recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Maroons will take on the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. George Wythe has given up an average of 7.3 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
George Wythe is headed into Wednesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Tuesday. They lost 12-6 to Grayson County. Maroons fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Blue Devils since on Tuesday.
Jadelyn Faulkner made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Ashley Layne was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Meanwhile, Auburn entered their tilt with Eastern Montgomery on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Mustangs a 10-0 shutout. Considering the Eagles have won 11 contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Samantha Anderson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Mallory Akers, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Auburn always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eastern Montgomery only posted an OBP of .227.
Auburn's record now sits at 13-4. As for George Wythe, their loss dropped their record down to 5-10.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. George Wythe hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Auburn struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
George Wythe couldn't quite finish off Auburn when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 9-7. Can the Maroons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
