This was a revenge game for the Wildcats: when they faced off against Kankakee Trinity Academy back in December of 2024, they had to take a 82-50 loss.
Donovan had a senior duo take command as Jacob Onnen went 9-for-14 on his way to 23 points in addition to seven boards and five assists and Brendan Hennieke dropped a double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Onnen continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Braden Klecan, who went 5-for-6 to rack up 11 points and six rebounds.
Donovan was working as a unit and finished the game with 26 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Kankakee Trinity Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cory Hathaway, who posted 19 points and three steals. The game was Hathaway's fourth in a row with at least 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Akira Hori, who went 8-for-16 en route to 18 points and three steals.
Donovan's win bumped their record up to 6-20. As for Kankakee Trinity Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 18-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Donovan will challenge South Newton at 8:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Kankakee Trinity Academy, they will take on Illinois Lutheran at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
