The Smithfield Sentinels will head out on the road to face off against the Coventry Oakers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Smithfield will be strutting in after a victory while Coventry will be coming in after a loss.
Smithfield is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: East Providence, who was ranked seventh at the time (Smithfield was ranked 17th). The Sentinels came out on top against the Townies by a score of 6-1 on Monday. The win continues a trend for the Sentinels in their matchups with the Townies: they've now won four in a row.

Maddie Bose made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over seven innings pitched. Bose was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one run and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ava Lopez, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Elaina Reed also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.
Smithfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matchups.
La Salle Academy hit Coventry with a five-run fourth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Oakers took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rams. The Oakers haven't had much luck with the Rams recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Coventry saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addison Kerwin, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Coventry's defeat dropped their record down to 12-8-2. As for Smithfield, their record now sits at 7-9-1.
Smithfield came out on top in a nail-biter against Coventry when the teams last played back in May of 2025, sneaking past 2-1. Will the Sentinels repeat their success, or do the Oakers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
