The Keenan Raiders pushed their score all the way to 55 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Academy of Richmond County by a score of 57-55. Keenan has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
When it comes to explaining why Keenan lost, one person who can't be blamed is Brian Sumpter. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 rebounds. Sumpter is absolutely dominating the block category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Rashard Robinson Jr, who scored five points along with eight rebounds and six steals.
Even though they lost, Keenan were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Justin Mims continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Academy of Richmond County, scoring 20 points. The contest was Mims' 12th in a row with at least ten points.
Keenan's loss dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Academy of Richmond County, their win bumped their record up to 11-1.
Keenan and St. John's will face off at 5:20 p.m. on December 27, 2023 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. St. John's presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Keenan in their respective states (St. John's is ranked fifth in District of Columbia, while Keenan is ranked 78th in South Carolina). Academy of Richmond County's road trip will continue as they head out to face Fox Creek at 11:00 a.m. on January 1st. Hopefully Fox Creek focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Friday.
