Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead New Heights Christian Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jadon Smith, who went 7 of 10 en route to 18 points. Smith is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Jayce Walker was another key player, going 7 for 12 on his way to 15 points and five steals.
New Heights Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in eight consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Jefferson Independent Day came up short against Gloria Deo Academy on Friday and fell 62-50. The Cavaliers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Jefferson Independent Day saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jack Twiss went 10 of 15 en route to 26 points and three steals. That was a full 52% of Jefferson Independent Day's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kohl Thurman, who scored six points in addition to seven boards and three blocks.
Jefferson Independent Day's defeat dropped their record down to 10-8. As for New Heights Christian Academy, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-4.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. New Heights Christian Academy hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 66 points per game. However, it's not like Jefferson Independent Day struggles in that department as they've been averaging 56.9 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Everything came up roses for New Heights Christian Academy against Jefferson Independent Day in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, as the team secured an 87-30 win. In that contest, New Heights Christian Academy amassed a halftime lead of 50-21, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Tuesday.
