The Neumann-Goretti Saints scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They came out on top against Devon Prep by a score of 92-83. Given Neumann-Goretti's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked second, while Devon Prep is ranked 108th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Neumann-Goretti's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Stephon Ashley, who scored 23 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ashley has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Larenzo Jerkins, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds.
Despite the loss, Devon Prep still got an impressive performance from Zane Conlon, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Shane Doyle, who scored 13 points along with eight assists and six rebounds.
He wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Devon Prep were working as a unit and finished the game with 26 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Neumann-Goretti only racked up 18 assists.
The win made it two in a row for Neumann-Goretti and bumps their season record up to 18-2. As for Devon Prep, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-12.
Neumann-Goretti will head out on the road to square off against La Salle College at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Neumann-Goretti has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Devon Prep, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Conwell-Egan Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Devon Prep is on a five-game streak of home losses, Conwell-Egan Catholic a five-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change.
