Basketball Recap: Malis Firman Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Flint Southwestern Academy

Bendle lost to Flint Southwestern Academy back in January of 2023, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Tuesday. Everything went the Bendle Tigers' way against the Flint Southwestern Academy Knights as the Bendle Tigers made off with a 78-56 victory. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 301st, while the Knights are ranked 688th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Bendle's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Malis Firman, who dropped a double-double on 13 assists and 11 steals. Those 13 assists gave Firman a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Mattis, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine boards.

Bendle smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Bendle's win bumped their record up to 11-3. As for Flint Southwestern Academy, they dropped their record down to 0-9 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bendle will head out to challenge Atherton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Flint Southwestern Academy, they will venture away from home to take on Genesee at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Flint Southwestern Academy is facing Genesee at the right time seeing as Genesee is stuck on a 15-game losing streak.
