Given Canutillo's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 423rd, while Burges is ranked 958th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Canutillo's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Angel Moriel, who scored 21 points along with seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Moriel has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Jordan, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds.
Canutillo is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season. As for Burges, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-18 record this season.
Canutillo on the road again on Friday and play against Andress at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. As for Burges, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Chapin at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. Chapin is coming into the game hot, having won their last nine games.
