Willow Glen is on a 12-game streak of home wins, while Gilroy is on a seven-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Rams will welcome the Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Willow Glen's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Leigh as they made off with a 6-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Longhorns: they've now won five in a row.
The team relied heavily on Sienna Wilson, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted over her last seven matchups. Katelynn Dilbeck was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Willow Glen hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Leigh struck out eight times.
Meanwhile, Gilroy made easy work of Westmont on Tuesday and carried off a 13-0 win.
Ariela Yslava made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Jennie Hernandez was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Andrea Alvarez, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.
Willow Glen's victory bumped their record up to 25-0. As for Gilroy, their win bumped their record up to 18-6.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Willow Glen hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .346. However, it's not like Gilroy struggles in that department as they've averaged .368. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Willow Glen skirted past Gilroy 4-3 when the teams last played back in April. Will the Rams repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
