The Delta Eagles will challenge the Hamilton Heights Huskies at 12:00 p.m. on Monday. Delta will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Delta is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They never let Jay County get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.
Kaeb Stebbins was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.
In other batting news, Chase Ritchie was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Brady Williams was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Delta kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Hamilton Heights hadn't done well against Yorktown recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Huskies won by a run and slipped past the Tigers 4-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Huskies.
Nick Hulen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on six hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Josh Newton, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Hamilton Heights' victory bumped their record up to 10-18. As for Delta, their win bumped their record up to 20-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Delta has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Hamilton Heights struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Delta couldn't quite finish off Hamilton Heights when the teams last played back in May of 2021 and fell 2-0. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
