Basketball Recap: Clover Piles Up the Points Against York

A well-balanced attack led Clover over York in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Clover Blue Eagles blew the York Cougars out of the water with a 57-12 final score. The Blue Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matchups by 24 points or more this season.

Clover's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Clara Powell led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on ten points and nine boards. The dominant performance also gave Powell a new career-high in steals (four). Samara Lucas was another key player, dropping a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.

Clover was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as York only posted two assists.

Clover pushed their record up to 7-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.6 points per game. As for York, they are on a 17-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Clover wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 78-7 victory against East Gaston on the 27th. After both having extra time off, York and Dreher will shake off the cobwebs and face off against one another at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
