The Columbus Torah Academy Lions will head out to challenge the Briggs Bruins at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Two weeks ago, Columbus Torah Academy made easy work of Foxfire and carried off an 18-3 win.
Josh Greff made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Greff was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Avraham Import and Sam Frank dominated on the mound. Import went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Frank got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Back at the plate, Boaz Harow was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Briggs had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Wednesday. They blew past the 76ers 17-2. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
Like Columbus Torah Academy, Briggs also got a great game from a two-way player: Brailyn Hernandez. He struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. That's the most strikeouts Hernandez has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times he's played.
In other batting news, Cameron Griffith and Jaxon Mitskevich did most of the damage at the plate: Griffith got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Mitskevich went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Mitskevich has become a key player for Briggs: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-2 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Wyatt Martin, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and two doubles.
Briggs' victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.5 runs over those games. As for Columbus Torah Academy, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
