Basketball Recap: River City Believers Academy Comes Up Short

River City Believers Academy came up into this matchup off a tough 41-point defeat last Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Gateway Christian Eagles by a score of 39-36 on Thursday. The Soldiers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.

When it comes to explaining why River City Believers Academy lost, don't look at Brennen McGuire. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds. That's the most boards McGuire has posted since back in November of 2023. Noah Averill was another key player, putting up ten points.

This is the second loss in a row for River City Believers Academy and nudges their season record down to 4-4. As for Gateway Christian, they moved to 2-4 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

River City Believers Academy will take on First Baptist Academy in a holiday battle at at 3:00 p.m. on December 20th. First Baptist Academy will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something River City Believers Academy surely won't give up without a fight. As for Gateway Christian, they will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against Sunnybrook Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Sunnybrook Christian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.3 points per game this season.
