The Palmetto Tigers lost against the Venice Indians back in September of 2021, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Palmetto had to suffer through a rough 51-16 loss at the hands of Venice. Palmetto has struggled against Venice recently, as their match on Friday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Palmetto's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Clayton Dees, who rushed for six yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 205 yards and a touchdown.
Venice was led to victory by Alvin Johnson iii and Jamarice Wilder. Johnson iii rushed for 87 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries, while Wilder rushed for 129 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries. Wilder is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last four games he's played. Cj Lewis also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.
Palmetto's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Venice, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 6-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Palmetto will take on Manatee at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Manatee presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Palmetto in Florida (Manatee is ranked 82nd, while Palmetto is ranked 204th). As for Venice, they will stay at home for another week and welcome IMG Academy White at 7:30 p.m. on October 27th. IMG Academy White is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
