The Corbett Cardinals will venture away from home to face off against the Stevenson Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Corbett is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.
It was a proper cat-fight when Corbett duked it out with Portland Adventist Academy on Tuesday. The Cardinals put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 14-3 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Cardinals considering their two-run performance the game before.
Bella Austinson was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilly Schimel, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
Meanwhile, Stevenson had just enough and edged out Fort Vancouver 8-6 on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bulldogs.
Jewel Waymire spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. Those six strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
On the hitting side, Rebecca Townsend was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two triples, and two stolen bases. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played. Kaycee Norris was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Stevenson's record is now 6-3. As for Corbett, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
Friday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Corbett has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .563. However, it's not like Stevenson struggles in that department as they've averaged .451. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Corbett suffered a grim 26-16 defeat to Stevenson when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can the Cardinals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
