The Waukesha South Blackshirts will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Waterloo Pirates at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Waterloo took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Waukesha South, who comes in off a win.
On Friday, Waukesha South made easy work of West Allis Central and carried off a 25-2 win.
Cooper Wiltz made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Wiltz was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Michael Petfalski was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and five RBI. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Alex Montez, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Waukesha South always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .640. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Allis Central only posted an OBP of .318.
Meanwhile, Waterloo fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Wisconsin Heights on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 11-7 to the Vanguards. The Pirates have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Waterloo also got a good showing from Jacob Gier, who struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits.
On the hitting side, Jackson Burbach and Avery Peachey did some serious damage despite the final result: Burbach scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances, while Peachey scored two runs while going 1-for-4.
The victory got Waukesha South back to even at 1-1. As for Waterloo, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
