The Lecanto Panthers will head out to take on the Citrus Hurricanes at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lecanto hasn't scored more than two runs for three games straight, a trend the squad is eager to reverse.
Lecanto came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Forest, falling 12-2.
Shawna Griffin made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Izzy Coimbre was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Citrus). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Pasco a 13-0 shutout on Friday. With that win, the Hurricanes brought their scoring average up to 7.4 runs per game.
Kaylin Smith made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. What's more, she gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had since back in March of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI. What's more, she posted two hits, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Makaila Anderson, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 2-for-2. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Baylie Goodwin, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-2.
Citrus always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pasco only posted an OBP of .211.
Citrus' record now sits at 4-1. As for Lecanto, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.
Lecanto beat Citrus 8-3 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lecanto since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
