3A South Central recap Oct. 23, 2012
Coronado made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,552 from 10,197. The improvement came about via a 51-7 victory over Woodland Park last week.
Wasson's dynamic duo of Richie Perea and DJ Hanes proved tough for Lewis-Palmer to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Perea threw for 190 yards and two touchdowns and Hanes had 145 yards receiving. Aaron Shoemaker helped Wasson's passing attack out by catching four balls for 35 yards.
Sam Smith made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Cougars topped the Panthers. The 6-foot-1 junior pulled down one interception.
Isaha Duvall was the most productive running back in 3A South Central this week. He ran for 136 yards on nine carries as Coronado lost to the Rangers. Austin Micci also contributed to the rushing game with 97 yards on the ground.
Wasson's Perea and Hanes have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Perea has thrown for 1678 yards this season, while Hanes has 45 catches for 857 yards. Mitchell's Aaron Wright leads the league in rushing yards with 1250.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Discovery Canyon takes on Woodland Park. At the moment, the Thunder are in first, while Joe Roskam's team is in fourth.
Lewis-Palmer led 3A South Central in scoring this week after putting up 53 points on Jeff Palmer's team. Nate Conner threw for 127 yards and one touchdown and ran for 102 yards in the win.
