Monrovia has gone a perfect 5-0 against Eminence recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Bulldogs will be playing at home against the Eels at 5:30 p.m.
Monrovia couldn't beat Speedway on Monday even though they stacked four runs on them in the first inning. The Bulldogs fell just short of the Sparkplugs by a score of 9-8. While the Bulldogs didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Sparkplugs 4-0 in the first period.
Gauge Tolan made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 4-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Colby Schmaltz, who went 1-for-6 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, Eminence owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Monday. They blew past Providence Cristo Rey 9-0. The Eels haven't had any issues with the Wolves recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Lucien Beam made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Eminence is 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Beam was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times he's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mason Setser, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with seven stolen bases and two runs. Those seven stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Conner Beam, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.
Monrovia has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for Eminence, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Monrovia has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Eminence struggles in that department as they've been averaging 12.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Monrovia's way against Eminence when the teams last played back in May of 2023, as Monrovia made off with a 22-0 victory. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Eels have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
