Jayden Garcia was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Houston got a massive performance out of Ty Sonnentag, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI and two runs. Those three RBI gave Sonnentag a new career-high. Ethan Spencer was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Houston always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .632. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Colony faced West Valley in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Knights came out on top against the Wolf Pack by a score of 10-7.
The team relied heavily on Hayden Sherman, who went 2-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season. Another player making a difference was Boman Marks, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Houston pushed their record up to 3-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Colony, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Colony's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Houston has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .469. It's a different story for Colony, though, as they've only averaged .358. Will they be able to contain Houston's hitters?
Houston came out on top in a nail-biter against Colony in their previous meeting back in April of 2022, sneaking past 7-6. Do the Hawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Knights turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
