COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. - Special teams carried
Sutter (Calif.) to a 61-26 victory over Cottage Grove (Ore.) on Saturday as the return units contributed two touchdowns. The special teams of the Huskies scored on two kick returns.
After taking the lead on a touchdown catch by
Brandon Stephenson in the first quarter, Sutter was up 21-0 at the half.
SHS grew its lead to 83 points entering the fourth quarter. The Huskies scored seven times in the third, including once on a kick return touchdown by
Tyjuan Prince.
Sutter scored 61 points in the third quarter on the way to a win. SHS scored on a kick return touchdown by Prince, a passing touchdown, a touchdown catch by
Cody Lee, a touchdown pass by
Skeeter Lewis to Lee, a kick return and a passing touchdown in the quarter.
Lee played well for the Huskies in the victory. The senior running back caught two touchdowns.
The victory was a step in the right direction for Sutter, which was coming off a 34-14 defeat at the hands of El Cerrito in its previous game.
Cottage Grove (0-2) will play a non-conference game against North Bend/Oregon Coast Tech next week, while Sutter (1-1) will take on Justin-Siena also in a non-conference game.
