Cherokee County is 9-1 against the Golden Eagles since February of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Cherokee County Warriors will be playing at home against the Jacksonville Golden Eagles at 5:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Cherokee County waltzed into their game on Saturday with six straight wins but they left with seven. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Cleburne County 60-26 at home. Given Cherokee County's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 63rd, while the Tigers are ranked 357th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Jacksonville had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They claimed a resounding 70-29 victory over the Wildcats on the road. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 45-14.
Jacksonville's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jayci Taylor, who scored 22 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Taylor has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexis Phillips, who scored 16 points along with three steals.
Cherokee County's win was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 24-4. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 30.9 points. As for Jacksonville, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-14 record this season.
Cherokee County didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against the Golden Eagles in their previous matchup last Friday, but they still walked away with a 54-49 win. Will Cherokee County repeat their success, or do the Golden Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
