The Robert C. Byrd Eagles will head out to challenge the Elkins Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Robert C. Byrd is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Robert C. Byrd needed a bit of extra time to put away Lincoln. They walked away with an 8-5 win over the Cougars. While the Eagles didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-20), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Ashton Shaffer and Xavier Carvelli made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Shaffer tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Carvelli didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Shaffer has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Shaffer scored two runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances, while Carvelli scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Cooper Floyd was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. He has become a key player for Robert C. Byrd: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-2 otherwise. Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Elkins duked it out with Lincoln on Saturday. The Tigers fell 7-2 to the Cougars. Tigers fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Cougars since on Saturday.
Braden Cooper was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Brayden Biller was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two doubles.
Robert C. Byrd has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Elkins, their loss dropped their record down to 2-8.
Everything went Robert C. Byrd's way against Elkins in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Robert C. Byrd made off with a 14-4 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
