Basketball Recap: Center Hill's Winning Streak Snapped at Three Games

After flying high against West Memphis Christian last Friday, Center Hill came back down to earth. The Center Hill Mustangs fell 65-55 to the Grenada Chargers on Tuesday. The Mustangs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Chargers earlier this season, when they won 65-37.

Despite the loss, Center Hill still got an impressive performance from Madison S. Hughes, who went 6 of 10 on her way to 14 points along with six rebounds and four blocks. S. Hughes is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last seven games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennedy Hulbert, who went 6 for 14 en route to 13 points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Center Hill smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in five consecutive matches.

It was another big night for Carlei Brown, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 13 boards for Grenada. That's the most points Brown has posted since back in February of 2024. Addyson White was another key player, putting up 12 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals.

Center Hill moved to 8-14 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Grenada, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Center Hill will face off against Holly Springs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Center Hill is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53 points per game this season. As for Grenada, they will take on South Panola at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. South Panola has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
