Spooner and Cameron are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Rails will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Comets at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Spooner has three straight wins, Cameron has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last six times Spooner and Northwestern have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Tuesday. The Rails were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Tigers. The Rails might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by nine runs or more this season.
Evan Potaczek made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mason Sobralski, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Shamari Fahie, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Spooner always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Cameron lost 8-1 to Webster on Thursday.
Cameron saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryker Ebert, who went 1-for-3 with one run. Jonas Martinson also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Spooner's victory bumped their record up to 13-2. As for Cameron, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.
Spooner took their win against Cameron when the teams last played back in April by a conclusive 11-0 score. Will the Rails repeat their success, or do the Comets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
