Newberg is a perfect 3-0 against Cleveland since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Tigers will be playing at home against the Warriors at 5:00 p.m. Cleveland took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Newberg, who comes in off a win.
Newberg took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They never let North Salem get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory. The high-scoring effort was just what the Tigers needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
McKenna Proffitt made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Proffitt was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Newberg let Evalyn Campos and Delainy Willard run wild. Campos went 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run, while Willard scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Williams, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 13 runs the game before, Cleveland was a bit more limited in their match on Friday. They came up short against McDaniel, falling 15-2.
Clara Waldron was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Newberg now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Cleveland, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.
Cleveland's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Newberg hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .542. It's a different story for Cleveland, though, as they've only averaged .248. Will they be able to contain Newberg's hitters?
Everything went Newberg's way against Cleveland in their previous meeting back in April of 2021, as Newberg made off with an 8-0 win. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
