Despite the loss, Auburn Riverside saw an underclassman step up: Emediong Ukpe scored nine points along with ten rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Ukpe pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Ben Malela, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Leading Auburn Mountainview to victory were Mande Wanlemvo and Caleb Bowden. Wanlemvo dropped a double-double on 18 points and 19 rebounds, while Bowden dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. Bowden continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Mello Jacobs was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with three steals.
Auburn Riverside's loss dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Auburn Mountainview, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-6.
Auburn Riverside will head out on the road to square off against Auburn at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Auburn knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven contests -- so hopefully Auburn Riverside likes a good challenge. As for Auburn Mountainview, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Kent-Meridian at 7:00 p.m. on January 27th.
