Volleyball Recap: Saturday's Loss Ends Edinburg's Winning Streak

After a string of seven wins, Edinburg's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Bears. The Bobcats were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bears earlier this season, when they won 3-1.

While Edinburg ultimately came up short, they really made Pharr-San Juan-Alamo work, particularly in the first set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 28-26, 25-20, 16-25, 25-22.

Edinburg's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Ellie Garza, who had 14 digs and two aces, and Ayla Rangel, who had 20 digs and five assists. Garza is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last 11 games she's played.

Edinburg's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 26-14. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 25-9 record this season.

Edinburg and Pharr-San Juan-Alamo should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. The Bobcats (ranked 331st) will meet La Joya (ranked 1114th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo will square off against Economedes at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (284 vs. 1011).
