The Edison Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Barnesville Shamrocks at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Edison is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
On Tuesday, Edison came up short against Claymont and fell 9-6.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Barnesville made sure to put some runs up on the board against Bridgeport on Thursday. The Shamrocks walked away with a 10-6 win over the Bulldogs. The Shamrocks haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Ella Betts and Peyton Loudin made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Betts didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Loudin struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, Betts went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Loudin went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those two doubles gave Betts a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abygail Ady, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Swan, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.
Edison's loss dropped their record down to 14-9. As for Barnesville, they now have a winning record of 12-11.
Edison was able to grind out a solid win over Barnesville when the teams last played back in May of 2023, winning 5-0. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Shamrocks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
