Winamac is 9-1 against West Central since May of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the Trojans at 5:00 p.m. Winamac is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Winamac gave up the first runs on Saturday, but they didn't let that get them down. They blew past Pioneer 11-1. The win continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won three in a row.
Cody Wheeler and Petyon Attinger did most of the damage at the plate: Wheeler got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI, while Attinger went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one run. That's the most RBI Attinger has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Will Malchow, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
West Central's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to Pioneer on Thursday. Everything went the Trojans' way against Culver Community as they made off with a 9-3 victory.
Christian Hughes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 13 Ks.
At the plate, Connor Huber was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. He is becoming a predictor of West Central's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-2 (and 4-8 when he doesn't). Kyle Gibson also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
West Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 4-2 when they post 11 or more hits.
West Central has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Winamac, their record now sits at 14-10.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Winamac has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like West Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Winamac suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to West Central in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. Can the Warriors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
