Basketball Recap: Thales Academy Apex Gets the Win

If St. Thomas More Academy wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Thales Academy Apex, they should've done a better job of containing Anna Maass. The Thales Academy Apex Titans came out on top against the St. Thomas More Academy Chancellors by a score of 37-24 on Thursday thanks in part to Maass, who posted 21 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Thales Academy Apex's points.

Another player making a difference was Payton Duke, who put up eight points and five steals. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game.

Thales Academy Apex's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for St. Thomas More Academy, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Thales Academy Apex will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on South Wake at 2:30 p.m. on January 4, 2025. As for St. Thomas More Academy, they will welcome Wake Prep Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Wake Prep Academy's defense has only allowed 27.7 points per game this season, so St. Thomas More Academy's offense will have their work cut out for them.
