The Homer Knights waltzed into their match on Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They took down Winnebago 62-45. With that victory, Homer brought their scoring average up to 50.3 points per game.
Leading Homer to victory were Jocelyn Hightree and Alexandra Albrecht. Hightree scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and four steals, while Albrecht scored 22 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Hightree is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Tori Walker, who scored seven points along with four steals.
Winnebago's loss came despite strong showings from Tressa BigBear and Jolon Blackbird. BigBear scored 11 points along with four steals and three blocks, while Blackbird scored 12 points along with five rebounds and two steals. BigBear hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games.
Homer is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 7-8 record this season. As for Winnebago, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Homer is on the road again on Monday and plays the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on February 5th. Hartington-Newcastle and the Knights are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. As for Winnebago, they will head out on the road to challenge the Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Nebraska (Wakefield is ranked 153rd, while the Indians are ranked 167th).
