The North Sanpete Hawks are taking a road trip to square off against the Emery Spartans at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
North Sanpete lost 10-2 to Springville on Wednesday.
North Sanpete saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mylee Cook, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Emery hadn't done well against Carbon recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Spartans blew past the Dinos 9-3. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won ten matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Kallee Lake spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Elli Stoker, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Katelyn Nielson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
Emery's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-10. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for North Sanpete, their loss ended an eight-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-10.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. North Sanpete hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Emery struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
North Sanpete beat Emery 6-2 when the teams last played back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hawks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
